Best practice nursing research will receive a funding boost after Kedron Wavell Services Club this week committed to supporting nursing at The Prince Charles Hospital.
Kate Ashton, The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation CEO, said the $150,000 agreement, signed at the International Nurses Day celebration, establishes the Kedron Wavell Services Club Patient Enrichment Fund. “The Kedron Wavell Services Club Patient Enrichment Fund will provide $50,000 a year for three years to support the evidence-based nursing research program, improve amenities for the families of patients in Palliative Care,” Ms Ashton said. “Practical nursing research is critical to developing new ways of patient care and nurses at The Prince Charles Hospital have conducted a vast range of studies which are already having significant impact.” Thirty-thousand dollars each year will contribute to the nursing research program. Over the three years some of the additional $20,000 per year will be spent on new equipment for Palliative Care patients and their families, including replacing sofa beds and installing shade sails at the Palliative Care family overnight stay area. “Up to $8000 will also be used to provide basic toiletries for patients who have an unexpected hospital admission and haven’t even had a chance to bring a toothbrush,” Ms Ashton said. Senior Vice President of Kedron Wavell Services Club, Jim Whalan, said the club was extremely pleased to formalise the relationship with The Prince Charles Hospital. “Nurses have a long tradition of helping soldiers,” Mr Whalan said. “Now it’s time for the soldiers – the Returned Services members who support the club – to help nurses.” Mr Whalan said Kedron Wavell had been supporting the hospital in various ways for 40 years and saw yesterday’s formal agreement as recognition of the strong relationship that continues today.
