Project description:
The project will determine the long-term survival rate of adult patients who require admission to an Intensive Care Unit at The Prince Charles Hospital. Doctors currently base their advice about long term risks of survival on data predominantly obtained from other institutions, including from hospitals overseas. This is because studies at our hospital have been limited to short term outcomes, such as survival to hospital discharge.

As a result of this project it is perceived that patients and their families may receive more accurate, individually relevant information about the risks of needing a major surgical procedure or admission to an Intensive Care Unit. The project may also identify risk factors for death that may be modified through interventions and importantly contribute to the overall quality of care at our hospital.
