World-leading researchers at The Prince Charles Hospital have received fellowships in recognition of their excellent work.
CEO of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation Ms Kate Ashton congratulates Associate Professor Scott Bell, Dr Dan Chambers and Dr David Reid who have each been awarded a fellowship from the Queensland Office of Health and Medical Research. “The research capabilities at The Prince Charles Hospital are recognised nationally and internationally, but not so well-known locally,” Ms Ashton said. “These highly competitive fellowships will provide Drs Bell, Chambers and Reid the ability to commit more time to their research into cystic fibrosis and lung transplantation.” The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, which funds medical research at The Prince Charles Hospital, has made significant contribution to thoracic research projects in the past two decades. “We are very pleased to have supported Dr Bell’s work, in particular, throughout his research career as a Thoracic Physician and now Director of Thoracic Medicine at The Prince Charles Hospital,” Ms Ashton said. Last year the Foundation awarded over $1.2 million in medical research grants over 42 projects, including 17 from the Thoracic Department totalling $553,794. “In 2010 we introduced competitive funding for equipment and novice researcher projects as well as continuing our grants for experienced researchers.” For information about research or to make a donation, visit www.tpchfoundation.org.au Download the media release (pdf) Read the statement by The Hon Geoff Wilson MP, Minister for Health.
